The Ongoing History of New Music, Episode 785: Rock’n’Roll Rehab [Music and Podcast Embedded]
When you’re a rock star, you exist in a bubble where everyone is afraid to tell you “no” regardless of how crazy things might get. But then again after a while, “crazy” seems “normal.” Perspective is lost. And when the pressures of fame get to a person, they may turn to unhealthy ways of dealing with the situation. Drugs. Alcohol. Self-destructive behaviour.
This is a show filled with stories involving substance abuse issues in the world of alt-rock. Some have happy endings while others are sad and tragic. All of the people mentioned in this show have gone right to the edge–and some of them didn’t come back.
Songs heard in this show:
Amy Winehouse, Rehab (Cliched, maybe, but it belongs here.)
RHCP, Under the Bridge
Depeche Mode, Walking in My Shoes
Mad Season, River of Deceit
Alice in Chains, Grind
Nirvana, You Know You’re Right
Hole, Celebrity Skin
