The Ongoing History of New Music, Episode 791: The Last Hours of…
At some point, all of us will shuffle off this mortal coil and join the choir invisible. It doesn’t matter who you are, how much money you have or how famous you might be. In the end, we all die.
This really hits home when musicians we love disappear under the cloak of the Grim Reaper. It’s not like we personally know these people, but because their music helps us know ourselves, a little piece of them dies with them.
The circumstances of their passings vary: misadventure, accidents, overdoses, suicide. Some can be explained away while the circumstances of others will forever remain a mystery. With that in mind, let’s take a look back on the last hours of some musicians who left us too soon.
Songs heard on this week’s show:
Sid Vicious, My Way
Joy Division, Love Will Tear Us Apart
Nirvana, I Hate Myself and Want to Die
Blind Melon, Change
Alice in Chains, Died
Amy Winehouse, Rehab
STP, Dead and Bloated
Soundgarden, Black Hole Sun
Official Creator of Playlists™, Eric Wilhite, put this together for us.
