UPDATE: Who will we hear at tonight’s Chris Cornell tribute?
Tonight’s the night for I Am the Highway – A Tribute to Chris Cornell, and some details are starting to emerge in the hours before the show like last-minute performers that have been added. Unfortunately it does not appear that it will be streamed live, although I’m confident there will be tons of video footage tomorrow to suck up the time of fans who can’t make it to LA.
Those who are fortunate enough to be going will now be seeing Josh Homme, the Melvins
We are less than a week out of what promises to be the most emotional night of 2019 already.
I Am the Highway – A Tribute to Chris Cornell goes down January 16th at the legendary Forum in Los Angeles, featuring music from the bands rock’s preeminent singer fronted, namely Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog. Foo Fighters, Metallica and Ryan Adams will also be there to stack the lineup even further, pay respect and show love.
In a short video clip posted by AlternativeNation.net of Matt Cameron drumming with the caption “Getting Ready for the Big Show”, a faint voice can be heard singing “The Day I Tried to Live”.
While I’d say that’s a pretty big hint the Superunknown single will be one of probably many Soundgarden songs performed, it’s tough to tell if that’s a recording of Cornell or a soundalike rehearsing. Little has been said about the actual event since its initial announcement, leaving the proverbial door wide open for potential surprises. I would be shocked if longtime friends the Wilson sisters of Heart aren’t involved in some way; Ann Wilson literally just released a video covering “” off her 2018 Immortal album.
By the way, as of me typing this there is still a single ticket left in the front section of the stage. $2,955 USD will end up being a bargain for something this priceless once all the tears have been cried and washed away into the Pacific (proceeds to benefit EBMRF, i.e. the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation).
